Kind of underwhelming when you open the lid and see only a handful of fries inside. What's up with that?

I really love Greek food and this would be a fast food version, not quite authentic but fast, affordable and they have locations all over. Service was nice, the falafel was ok and their sauce fantastic, really the highlight here. My husband didn't enjoy his gyro, not much flavor and pretty small portions all around. The salads are ok here, nothing special, I am really missing flavor and quality, the sauce saves all. Not worth going out of my way to come back, but not bad.

With my new love for gyro plates and salads, I decided to give this place a try when I was in the neighborhood. I ordered the Greek salad with gyro meat to go. They give 1/2 the portion of meat compared to my usual spots, which is actually good b/c I always end up scarfing down the entire meal - usually with double the meat. The meat was good, but not as good as my favorites. Good pita, good service but nothing to rave about.

I was hesitant on going to Daphne's for lunch, but I decided to give this location a shot. The last time I went to another location, I literally got teeny tiny portions, and was still hungry afterwards. I ordered a combination plate, with Gyro and Chicken Kabob. The Gyro was well seasoned, and super tender. The Chicken was very tender, but it could have used more seasoning. The Tzatziki Sauce is light, refreshing, and adds flavor to the whole plate. This combination plate is served with rice, salad, and pita bread. The portion size at this location was big enough for two meals (for me). The service here was great. The lady who brings out your food and cleans up is SUPER sweet. I always just assume nicer areas (Newport Beach) always have better service anyways. This was less than $10 and definitely filled me up. Plus, it's healthier than grabbing a burger or burrito for lunch! :D

Another one of my healthy meal spots! For around ~$10 you can get a good portion size meal with most of the food groups. The food takes around 8-10 minutes to prepare. I usually get the mix and match plate with gyro, chicken kabob, hummus, and fries. The food is generally pretty good overall. I used to come here much less often because they never wore gloves when preparing the meal, but they do as of a few months ago. Around that time they also changed the oil they use for there fries, and that's an unfortunate downgrade both in taste and the way it looks. The service is good as it has friendly staff as well. Overall, it's a pretty solid lunch spot if you're in the mood for some Mediterranean.

Healthy food that's pretty good for relatively fast food. The fire feta was definitely delicious! Not too spicy (as the name may suggest) but still a little kick and great on fries or with pita. If you're craving greek food, this place will hit the spot!

I'm a huge fan of Greek/Mediterranean food; but the couple times I had dined at this Daphne's, I always feel sick to my stomach and nauseous. Perhaps their ingredients may not be fresh (like Chipotle...mmmmm). I thought maybe the first time, it was an off day for them. But I gave them a second chance and it was even worse. I got the Cali-Greek Bowl and it was room temperature. I want to throw up thinking about it now. I remember I used to love Daphne's, and then I had to go without it for a few years after moving out of state. And now that I've come back to it, it's terrible. So disappointing for a Greek joint (although it is fast food) in Newport Beach.

Met up an old worker for lunch in this busy plaza known as The Bluffs off Bison and MacArthur. During lunch time, it took me about 10 minutes to find parking (I ended up near Panera/Corner Bakery, I forget what it was), I accidentally went in the loading/employee parking only area and just when I thought I scored a spot, I had to look onward. Now Daphne's is as about as chain of a restaurant as you can get with Greek food and I have to say, they don't execute it too bad at all. For my lunch, I got the mix and match two item combo (chicken kebab and falafel) which comes with two sides; I chose hummus and roasted vegetables. While the food tasted fine (I think the falafel here were good, I wish I had more), I felt like I was still hungry. I do probably have a more hearty appetite than most, but by the time I ate the last piece of bell pepper off my plate, my stomach could be heard growling. So with a busy lunch time parking plaza and average Greek food, I can satiate my cravings by walking to the Mediterranean place down the street from work- however, I would never be opposed to coming here again; just not blown away.

The staff here does a great job! They are kind and patient. Food is good as always the Mediterranean salad is awesome and the chicken shawarma melt is too. It is crowded during lunch I usually call in my order and I have not had an issue with it being ready on time like some of the reviews I've read.

Love the food! Very tasty! Wasn't sure what to order and the manager and staff were very helpful with giving suggestions. Fairly quick service as well (not McDonald's fast though since they cook your food fresh!). Tons of outdoor seating which is great!! Great place for a lunch date :)

I can't say much about their other locations but, I must say George and his crew here in the Bluffs are good folks and make good food. Extremely convenient to my work place I find myself time and time again visiting and eating here. My usual plate of The Mediterranean Veggie satisfy even my beastly hunger after working on clients all day. I did take a point off solely on the consistency of the falafel that comes with my meals (sometimes it's a little over cooked) and sometimes I don't receive the tzatiki sauce, other than that, their Spanakopita is really really good! For a quick fix I really enjoy their Greek yogurt topped with blue berries and baklava. Give them a try sometime!!

Tried again because 3/4 times were really good, talked to the manager and he said they know who it was and fixed it :) glad to see they aren't going downhill and was just one person! The veggie wrap is really good with sundried tomatoe wrap, made vegan with Hummus and grilled veggies instead! (Also has Cucumber salad and taboule in it) note: fries are cooked with shrimp.

I've been to this center many times mainly for chipotle. Decided to give Daphne's a shot since I hadn't had a gyro in a while. It's one of the better gyros I've had in the Newport area. Been back a couple times since and only have tried the classic gyro. Will definitely be back!

This location proves every location is different and that means quality as well. I came to this location as my last experience with Daphne's was great. I have severe allergies - Celiac's and dairy. well this place had no idea what their gluten free menu options meant. this is terrifying when you go to places for their gluten free menu. i no longer trust this chain and see a huge difference in locations.

Disappointed with my first experience at Daphnes. To start off, they seemed very understaffed. The guy who was helping me at the cashier was clearly in training, which is totally okay, except for the fact that the manager (seemed like the manager, or the shift in charge) was not training him. I had no idea what I was ordering, because it was my first time there, and the guy at the cashier was no help. I was served my food without any utensils, and I was went looking for them, and they didn't have any set out ... that I was very confused how they expected me to eat my food. The food itself is very mundane. I definitely had better greek food elsewhere. I got a chicken kabob which was alright, the hummus was a little plain I thought, lacking a little more flavor. The felafel was terrible, never had such a sad tasting felafel... I will not be back at this location. I may be testing out another location though, just out of curiosity.

I spent over $10 for lunch at Daphne's on a plate combo of rice, salad and one measly, pathetic-looking steak babob. The sauce was a little bland. The steak cuts were very small. Salad was average. Rice tasted like it took no efforts to make. I would not come back here ever again.

Great food great location! One of the best Greek restaurants. Definitely coming back for to try the rest of the menu.

Completely unhappy with this location. First of all, I ordered my food online. After arriving at the place and paying, I had to wait another 15 minutes AFTER my scheduled pick up time for my food to be ready. Really, what's the point of ordering ahead of time if I still end up waiting? Second, the food was so Bleh. Steak wrap: the tortilla wrap itself was so tough, my jaw hurt halfway through. The flavoring was also considerably bland. Side of fries: ridiculously small. Didn't even fill half of the container they put it in. Mango chicken salad: not enough dressing. Underwhelming overall. Unsatisfied. Probably won't come back.

I came here with my mom and brother, and all of us where satisfied with what we ordered. The cashier was really helpful and nice. We ordered the strawberry chicken salad, a bowl with grilled chicken, and steak and chicken kabobs. As well as greek yogurt.

It was pretty much my first time here. When I came in, it was empty except the cashier/cook, the manager who was in a meeting with someone at site, and myself. First of all, first impressions make the eating experience. Check! When the manager found out it was my first time, he stopped whatever he was doing, walked over to me, and told me about the menu and gave me recommendations on what to order. He then ended it with telling the cashier to make sure it would be an unforgettable moment since it was my first time. I ordered the falafel wrap and made it a combo that came with a drink (the 2 sides I chose were tabouli salad and roasted vegetables). Note: The falafel wrap is a special order as of now. Information is located in front of the cash register. The falafel wrap was bomb! It was warm and all the flavors came together. You have the falafel nicely fried and crispy, but warm and soft on the inside. All this mixed together with a salsa and hummus as the sauce for the wrap. I ate the wrap again a few days later. Mmmmmm.... The tabouli salad was something I've never heard of before, hence the reason why I wanted to check it out. It's a salad consisting of bulgur (a wheat cereal), tomatoes, cucumbers, parsley, onion, and seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice, and salt. It was definitely something different. I wouldn't mind ordering it again. It was citrusy, which made it refreshing. The roasted vegetables had its ups and downs. The roasted red and yellow bell peppers and cucumbers were very flavorful. The only thing I didn't like was how the roasted vegetables was loaded with roasted string beans; string beans are not my thing. In the end, I loved my first experience dining here and will be sure to come back for more!

I so badly want to like this place. I've been here twice: once to try the Mediterranean chicken salad and another I had the chicken kabobs. It has healthy options, good-sized portions, friendly staff, and reasonable prices. However, the flavor just isn't quite there. My chicken kabobs were burnt and my salad just wasn't the right combo of flavors. It just leaves you feeling unsatisfied. I've heard their feta fries are good, but there are plenty of restaurants that can make healthy food taste good, so I'm gonna stick to those.

I just called this Daphne's to place a $600.00 order for our office, I asked for the catering person and was told they had left, the cashier said he could help and I said it was a large order, I would feel more comfortable speaking with a catering person or mgr., he put me on hold , came back and said the mgr. was on break. I said I would call another Daphne's, he said OK

Came here for a lunch on [12/16/14] To sum it up: Meh. Are you kidding me? Order the Gyro meat, vegetables and fries. Total: ~$10. Didn't come with a drink. (For a chain restaurant, and at that price, I would expect a drink to be included!) Gyro meat: Good, but they didn't include the tzatziki sauce? WTF. Do you have to pay EXTRA for that now? This is a joke right? Vegetables: Seared, but TOO MUCH pepper. Did they drop the pepper canister in my food? Fries: Way too Oily. Did they not let them dry out a bit. I had a small pool at the end of my tray. It was kind of disgusting. Would I come back? Probably Not Ever. Food quality was 'meh', Price was 'ARE YOU KIDDING ME?' YOU WOULD THINK they would try harder with so many more options opening up around them? I hope they do, if not, I hope the next business who replaces them will get it right.

Terrible service, the male cook here has been working here for sometime yet service is very slow and spotty and more than once Ive had to go to the counter to collect my food. Cashiers are way understaffed and poorly trained. One of the worst Daphne's franchise out there.

Terrible. Girlfriend ordered online on a Friday and was told it would be ready at 1:45pm, well after lunch rush. Get to Daphne's around 1:40ish and was told it wasn't ready yet, which is fine cause it said 1:45. Little over 10 minutes later after said quoted time, food wasn't ready and had to ask about it. Finally got it a few minutes later, no apology or anything. Asked why it took so long, and was told that they "had a rush come in earlier"... when it was completely empty? After taking food back to work, portion size was smaller than usual, barely any fries with burger. Never going back.

Just came here for lunch today with co-workers and we all three were very satisfied. George helped us with our orders. He was more than nice. Even gave my two girlfriends a little side of hummus for them to try. Always a plus when you have someone go above and beyond. The food was well prepared and very delicious. Will definitely be going back. And George should get a raise!

I continue to have the same issue at this Daphne's location in regards to catering. I have now on three separate occasions ordered well ahead of time and arrived at the location at time of scheduled pickup (per the online ordering system) to find out that the staff had not even started on the order yet. On all three occasions, I ended up waiting around 30-45 minutes after I arrived in order for the food to be prepared. I spoke with the Manager there, who was extremely unprofessional and unpleasant to interact with. He told me he would give me a call later that day to discuss further, and I never received a call. In addition, the employees looked unhappy and miserable -- not a surprise given the poor management. Rather than apologizing and rectifying the situation, he kept making excuses and told me that they were busy and backed up. This means nothing to me given the fact that my order was supposed to be ready at a specific time. I really just don't understand how so many talented people are unemployed while many who are employed are terrible at what they do. Daphne's corporate: Please please please hire a Manager who can handle this store properly. I've been to other locations that are run incredibly. If possible, let's get the Manager from the Fullerton store to take this location over for a bit so he can fix it up. Three strikes and you're out -- never again will I go to this location for catering.

  • C B.

The staff there just doesn't understand that people who order online and come pick-up are short on time and aren't looking for a leisurely wait. It is always ready 10-15 minutes after the order pick-up time. The food is great, but the service is subpar every single time.

    (2)
  • Matt J.

YUM. I absolutely love Daphnes. Great food, but understaffed. If only they had more than two employees! The two employees are incredibly friendly, but there's just not enough of them. Although understaffed, they somehow pull through and provide some AMAZING food. I absolutely love the chicken gyros. Anyways, the food is absolutely wonderful and has a great taste, BUT I feel that it is overpriced because I typically have to order two gyros to fill up my stomach and two sides of pita. It comes out to a painful $15 for that without drinks, but still great food. Overall great, but needs some more staff.

Wheeee, I must have hit them on an off-day because the rest of the reviews sound pretty good. I got the chicken pita sandwich with pesto hummus, fries, and a drink. The pesto hummus was basically a serving of hummus with a healthy dollop of pesto on top. Mix it together and you end up with delicious pesto hummus, or eat them separate, whatever. The fries were your standard McDonald's style fries, a bit salty (expected) and cooked a hair too long. The chicken in the pita was really really good, it had a lot of the grilled flavor. The pita, on the other hand, was very dry and stale and cracked. It made for a sad pita sandwich. Definitely not worth the money I paid, and probably not even worth eating. Luckily, pouring on tzatziki sauce and hummus made it palatable. The service was pretty weird too. The cashier didn't smile, didn't show any emotion, and when one person finished ordering she just kind of stared at the next person in line until they realized she was ready instead of saying something helpful like "Next!" Normally not a big deal, but then they had some snafu in the kitchen and were trying to find some guy's order so she stepped out to help...then came back and just stared at me. You were just off doing something else, lady, how about you tell me you're ready at least? I paid with a debit card and when she gave me the card and the receipt, she just stared again. Didn't say here, thank you, this is your number, or anything that would signal the end of the transaction. Just held my card and receipt out and looked at me. After all of that, it took a while for the food to come out.

I would give this place less than one star if I could. I should have followed my rule and not eaten at a place that was empty. My food was microwaved and basically inedible. I couldn't eat the falafel or pita bread. My "grilled chicken kabob" was equally horrible. Zero flavor. Nothing is fresh. Actually some of the worst food I've ever had. I consider myself someone of a foodie, and I would caution everyone to stay away from this place.

I am Greek, have eaten Greek food both domestically and abroad, and I can say this, Daphne's isn't Greek. It's an insult to Greek food, it's the Taco Bell of Mexican food. If you're looking for authentic Greek food, look elsewhere!

So my wife and i order dinner on line tonight. Generally when you order on line they get the order right. My wife wanted and ordered their mango salad. So we get it home and not one piece of mango on the salad????? Don't mid spending $30 for a salad and an entree, but really expect to get what we ordered...also if you order their fire feta, ask them for some additional pita bread to go with it as they only give you 4 small squares and its not nearly enough for the good amount of feta they give you.

Damn, is Daphne's getting a classy makeover or what? The last time I ate at Daphne's, they had normal furniture and served your food on styrofoam. Now they've got silverware and designer furniture, say whaaaaat-? I, for one, welcome this change. Everything looks much more inviting The thing I like most about Daphne's though is that it's a healthier option. They have their full menu with prices/calories online and in the store so you can plan out what you will get before you get there. It's especially helpful if you are trying to cut back. There are heavier options too if you're looking for something filling. The Two Kabob plate is a pretty good option for taste and calories, and the Pita Burger is also pretty good. One bad thing though is that the hummus is not very good =(. It's kind of grainy instead of it being blended well. It's harder to pick up with your pita bread and the flavor is also kind of "bleh".

The lunchtime parking situation here is a cluster F due to all the other surrounding restaurants, but the sometimes long line to order moves quickly with efficient, yet friendly service. I'm a fan of Daphnes because the quality, service, and atmosphere is a few notches above your typical fast food joint; but the pricing is only, like, one notch above other fast food. :) Anyway, here's a tip that applies to all Daphnes locations: Daphnes has one of the only email lists that I actually like being on. They rarely email me, and when do, it's usually with a coupon. Every year on my birthday, they email me a coupon for a free meal (no purchase necessary). I recommend signing up! They won't spam you: daphnes.biz/pita-points/… Opa!

Your attention please: Daphne's just got fancy. I came here one day and was pleasantly surprised by the new hip furniture and exterior Daphne's was sporting. It looks much more trendy and I also noted on my most recent visit the staff was super welcoming and acomadating as well. I have gotten their standard combinations (hummus, pita bread, gyros ect) catered to various events a countless number of times, so I decided to try something new. I ordered the salmon plate, which came with some fish, some hummus, some pita bread and a salad. Everything in it was good quality, but a little pricy around ten bucks and not very filling. Next time I'll probably stick with one of their standards. Another reason why I must drop Daphne's to just "A-OK" was their wait time. When I came in the place was pretty empty, and yet I still had enough time to grab coffee in the same plaza, and STILL have to wait 5 more minutes when I came back. I mean I guess that means it's made to order but were they gutting the fish back there or something? I'll be back, but I wouldn't say it's one of my favorites in The Bluffs. Lastly, beware of coming anywhere in this plaza anytime during the lunch/dinner rush. No parking and long lines!

  • Jean L.

I've been here twice- once with a coupon, once without. Both times I have been unimpressed. The food comes out a bit too dry for my taste, bordering bland.. The servers are nice, so that's always a plus.. Definitely not my first choice in dining.

Um, I'm guessing I'm the only one who knows what GOOD Greek food is? I had a decent meal here, but wow, the chicken was REALLY dry. The steak was pretty flavorful, but fatty. The pita bread was decent, but definitely didn't taste fresh. It's a good alternative to most fast food places, but don't come here if you know your shit...Oops, I mean, know what GOOD chicken kabob is.

PROS: - The pita wraps are so good. I've had the steak, shrimp, and grilled chicken pitas. I like how the pita bread is thicker than a tortilla. The meats are made fresh to order. - There are plenty of tables indoor and outdoor so you can enjoy a sunny California day. CONS: - I'm not used to gyros meat so it has an unattractive smell to me.

This is my go-to place for lunch or an early dinner whenever I'm in town. One thing that definitely stands out about this location in Newport Beach compared to other Daphnes is the cleanliness & modern decor inside. The food is always fresh - the gyros (full-sized ones) are always tasty and filling, salads are crisp & not soggy, pita bread is warm when it arrives. But the best part of all is that customer service is top-notch! I never get any pushback when I need extra cups, condiments (tzatziki sauce is fabulous) or extra time to decide what I want to order. Last month, I ordered a lemon soup with my meal but didn't receive it. I looked on my receipt and wasn't charged for it so I talked to the cashier again to place another order since I figured that he didn't hear me the first time around and he was nice enough to give me the soup for free. Can't beat it!

I used to go to this Daphne's every Tuesday when I was attending UC Irvine as an undergrad, but only recently went back a couple weeks ago after class on a Saturday. This shopping center is generally pretty packed when it comes to lunch hour on a weekday, but is fairly quiet on the weekends. Me and my group were able to go in and place our orders. We generally like to sit outside in the covered patio because the tables and chairs there are larger and it has a nicer view of the hills in the distance. For some reason, the quality of the service was more lethargic or uninspired than from what I'm used to. The Daphne's in Costa Mesa, on the other hand, has a much more active bunch and they take the time to kind of get to know you. My thing is that I think Daphne's should offer fire fetas for free. Sometimes you do get them when you ask, and sometimes you don't. It depends on the level of the person who brought out your meal and how engaging they are. The quality of the food at this Daphne's is actually pretty good. It's conveniently located next to the 73 freeway and UC Irvine. It's just a damn shame that the large crowds and personalities behind the counter don't add up to a winning combination.

I do not think that they know what Greek food is, FYI guys it's not just the sauce you pile in. You have to actually taste the food. George's Greek House is much better.

Good places for a quick lunch. I normally go for their Monday and Wednesday specials. Great service every time I go, and great filling healthy food every time I eat there. Not the best food I have eaten, but I definitey like coming here.

this entire plaza being right next to the office makes it a convenient spot for lunch. unfortunately, it is incredibly busy during this time, and finding parking can be a drag. i've always gone to the chipotle, panera bread, and carls jr when it was still around, but decided to try out daphnes instead. we ordered the chicken pita, gyro, and the california greek salad. chicken pita was pretty good, though a bit on the dry side. gyro was loaded to the brim with meat, but also incredibly difficult to eat. we ended up just eating it with a fork cause everything kept falling out. didn't try the salad, but coworker said it was less than par. price ranges from about 6-11 bucks depending on what you get. it was okay, but i've had better. i think i'll just stick to chipotle!

I was VERY impressed with Daphne's especially because it carries such a strong stigma for being a "chain" or "fast food" Greek spot. For the very first time I had a meal there, and I was pleased I could order it online. I ordered the pita sandwich with grilled chicken, I "made it spicy" which I have NO idea exactly what that entails, but it was DELISH. I ordered two sides: greek salad and spicy hummus and I was DEFINITELY happy. I can't give it 5 stars because restaurants with 5 stars, especially Greek ones, have to match up to George's or places THAT good, and the Salad COULD have been better. It lacked MORE red onion and just wasn't eloquently constructed (where's the FOOD love) which is probably why "fast food" places may get a bad rep. The pita was bomb. The pita itself was a great texture and it was LOADED. This place is NOT greedy with its ingredients. They use A LOT of feta in the pita sandwich and the spicy hummus(?) added to my sandwich was amazing. It was creamy and flavorful, spicy just like I love and an amazing garlic flavor. I didn't think the hummus carried a lot of bean flavor, which I actually like, but it was well balanced and the "spicy" addition was definitely tasty.

So, I've been here a couple of times. (No iphone, cannot "check-in-here" to my dismay, sigh.) But the other day, when I was at chipotle with my boyfriend and my friend we were like, "what? daphne's got a new logo? It got new furniture too?" I mean, it used to be just regular one height tables of four and two with standard wire-y metal chairs. But now, there's rainbow colored plastic chairs and these faux glossy "wood" tables...what?? Plus, i've been here more than a handful of times and there's always a nice old guy working here but today when I went there were two "hip" young "managers" there and no sign of the old guy. The old guy was so nice!!! Lol, okay, sorry. All I've been talking about is the decor and the people and not about the food. Thankfully, the food is still the same. I got the pita burger with fire feta and it's messy but it's delicious. So delicious. The way everything just falls onto your plate when you take your first bite. Oh my god lol. They also have a cool syrup machine (with cherry, vanilla, and orange) on their soda machine so you can enhance your own drinks. Whaoooo! Although not the best greek food I ever had, I'd be sure to come here for their pita burgers. :3 so good!

The food is okay, not the best Daphne's around. Sometimes the kabobs are dry and barely edible. They are quick during lunch tho so that is a plus. If you eat here during lunch you can sit outside and they will bring the food to you.

I had gyros and I did not like it. At all.

Great choices of reasonably priced tasty healthy food. The Fire Feta is absolutely amazing... ORDER IT if you love HOT spicy food. The prices seemed to have crept up over the past couple of years... but so have most of the other restaurants. They also continue to come out with new menu choices. Be sure to sign up for their Daphne's frequent diner club for discounts We've only had one problem in the 50+ times we've done business with them. We used their catering once for a company and they called 2 hours before the party to say their delivery guy called in sick and we needed to come pick up our food. OUCH!

My friends and I ordered the $7 dinner combo. *Lemon Chicken Soup=yumm yumm!! five stars! *Greek Salad=nothing too special, just like all greek salads i've had before, rather small portioned though. *Pita bread= we got the meal "to go" but the pita bread slices were so small! .....not ok! But they were hot/fresh so I guess it made up for it? *Street Gyros=good, I thought the meat was a bit dry *French Fries=possibly better tasting than the actual gyros *Chicken Kabob=good, but also on the dry side. *Pecan Carmel Delight: quite delicious...but not so good to be considered a heavenly treat. I thought the whole meal was a pretty good deal for $7. It was filling so I guess you could say you get your moneys worth. If you don't want a certain entree of the meal, they allow you to substitute it for something else. For example, I wasn't really feeling any dessert, so I substituted it with a drink! The service was very friendly. The guy at the cashier was nice and even spoke spanish to us...which was funny considering it's a GREEK place. Good for the UCI student on the go, because its like the fast food version of Greek food. I gave it three stars only because I do like the place, however, it's not like I'll be going every time because I'm such a big fan of the place.

I came here tonight because I had a coupon for $4.99 gyros sandwich and fries - great deal! However, this was probably one of the least impressive meals i've eaten in a while. At first I was excited because my sandwich was loaded with meat...it seemed like I was getting alot for my money! However, as soon as I started eating, I noticed that the meat was extremely dry. This was weird because it seemed like they had just sliced it fresh, but for some reason it was no bueno. Some of it was almost hard too and had a weird texture to it. I know good gyros, and this definitely was not up to par. In addition to the meat, the pita bread itself started falling apart while I was eating - not a good sign. The only redeeming factor was the french fries, which were still just average. In all fairness, I've had better meals at this location before. Most of the times I've had it over the past few years I had it catered, and it seemed to be better. However, the last couple of visits have been disappointing and I probably won't be back for a while, coupon or not.

I might not like this particular one anymore, because I've been here with my ex girlfriend, but I LOVE Daphne's! Their food is super fresh, and I always get full whenever I order something. Every menu item seems like a win!

Horrible service...it took us 25 minutes to get any food, and the place was not exactly full. And a staff that really just seemed like they didn't care at all. No apology at all for how long everything took -- not even a smile. Several other people were in our boat, and just couldn't understand where their food could be. And this food is not exactly worth waiting a long time for. The fire feta is decent, but the chicken pita was blah...I have given up on this place and will not go again.

If you're looking for authentic greek food - Daphne's is probably the closest you'll come to it albeit the lamb is going to be tastier if you get it at Wholesome Choice in Irvine. What do I like about this Daphne's? The food is always reliable and the location is supreme. I like the bluffs plaza for their outside dining which is perfect on summer / spring / even warm winter days! Daphne's will even look for you outside if you chose a dining in. I also like that they serve their dishes with real plates and silverware. About the bluffs --- this is usually a default plaza for us since it has Daphne's, Quiznos, Carl's, Panera, Baja Fresh (so if you are eating lunch with indecisive people --- raise hand --- you pretty much have it all here) Too bad parking sucks! There is more parking if you swing around the back behind pei wei or drive behind panera bread. Also if you are coming down macarthur -- make sure you turn on bison. I have made the mistake of missing it and ending up on the 73 many times.

This location is always pretty busy at lunch time -- and I suppose again at dinner time -- and it's probably a little undeserved. The chicken salad is very good, as is the soup -- just one available, the chicken avgolemono, which is a sort of semi-creamy lemon one with rice. I've tried everything on the current menu used across southern California, and everything's pretty good with three exceptions. The gyros and baklava are just okay, and wouldn't hold up outside SoCal which has pretty bad Greek food. The calamari is not up to standards and has a weird-tasting, squishy, grocery-store feeling to it. The real problem's always the price. They really force you to go in with a coupon -- from their E-mail club, the mail, etc. -- and even with these or the lunch specials it's not all that good. The dinner plates are all priced between $7.50 and $10, and lunch only about $1 less but with a drink. They rolled out a new menu several months ago that knocked off all their low-end options (e.g. spanakopita dinner, hummus and falafel dinner, soup and salad lunch, and my favorite, the Fire Feta Zeta lunch, which was a sort of filled-hard-bread appetizer). I'd suggest the vegetarian lunch or dinner out of the new, limited options, especially since the kabobs are a real rip-off. They package in a lot of types of food, so basically everything's got a salad and some yellow rice included. The problem is that it's a bunch of stuff you won't want to eat all in the same meal. What's worse is that all their responses to being too much food for too much money are to try to add even more food, like $1 soup added to entrees or three-course dinners where their entree/sides combination also gets an appetizer and dessert. The place is fast casual, and the service is timely and otherwise good. They have perfectly good but crowded tables inside, and nice ones outdoors as part of the shopping center, including covered outdoor seating and a large fireplace which may not be turned on. Parking at this center has a way of being a real problem, though, especially at lunch.

I go to Daphnes for lunch about three times a month. I think the food is great; healthier than the other fast food joints; it is filling; and most importantly, the service is exceptional. When you walk in, you are instantly greeted and given a menu from a staff member. Lately, I have been getting the veggie plate which includes Spanakopita, falafel, grape leaves, hummus. I am by far a veterinarian but I have to give this plate a two thumbs up. Their Fire Feta has a kick and if you like feta and heat, this is the best. You definitely want to to sign up as a VIP member. It is free and all you need to do is give them your phone number you signed up with and you earn points towards a free meal. I mean you have to earn about 200 points to get the free meal but if you like Daphnes as much as I do, it adds up. On top of that though, you receive really good coupons. I just went there yesterday with a buy one plate, get one free plate. I'm all about coupons with it comes to food. I gave it four stars and not the five is because I think the price is a bit pricey.

The food here is pretty good and consistent. I usually get the chicken salad with the spicy fire feta sauce, it's really good. The chicken is grilled perfectly every time, and the salad comes with pita bread and some kind of dip for it. The vegetarian platters are good too, they come with the grape leaf wrapped stuff, hummus, falafel and a few other things. Also you usually don't have to wait long for your food, except sometimes when it's really busy during lunch. 12 to 1pm is death for that location because it's so close to UC Irvine and a few business centers. But they take phone orders for dine-in and carryout, which can speed things up. My only real problem is with the prices; you spend over $10 for the salad and a drink, which is kind of excessive. Try to find the buy 1 get 1 free coupon if you can, that makes it really cheap to eat with a friend.

There is nothing wrong with this place, and it looks like they have spruced up the place recently. The food is the same, for better or worse, but I've always felt it's consistent. The gyro pita is nice, but not the best I've ever had. Their chicken lemon soup is definitely worth trying. Everything else is fairly average though. A nice update, just wish the food had a bit more of a spark to take it to the next level.

Maybe I went on a bad day, but I don't see why you'd ever go here over Wholesome Choice. Food was meh, nothing to write home about -- but given the other choices in this plaza (in this $-range) maybe that's why its so popular...

The "new menu" actually does have "new" items! And the old items have been edited and refreshed or eliminated altogether...Love the "Pita Burgers" I had a tasty veggie burger with hummus and produce...A very pleasant WOW! Sooo flavorful and it came with 2 sides!!! The staff was very warm, chatty and informative...Eager to share info in a helpful way. Loved the house-made whole grain pita chips...Nice salty-crispy sort-of-a-fries-fix thing... They were so generous with "come on back coupons" that I plan to use every one of them !!! (And they serve a grilled wild salmon entree' now too.!!! Can't wait to try it for $9.99??? Wow!) Do not know about the other locations but this one gets my business :')

This place is pretty good and pretty consistent when you need some decent Greek fast casual. I've never had food issues here and the staff is pretty cheery. Make sure you avoid 12pm-1pm as it's the busy hour for lunch, but even getting there at 11:45am ensures you a seat & no hassle parking. I usually get the gyro or fire feta lunch combo, but lately I've been impressed with their chicken nugget/strip things. The lemon chicken soup is good (add a dash of pepper for some kick). Their lunch specials are a really good value IMO. So in summary, not the BEST greek food....but what do you expect, it's fast casual in Newport, but it pulls it off well. I'd definitely recommend it.

This place is good and is a much healthier choice to eat at compared to the other restaurants nearby. The service was good and they bring out your food pretty fast. I was satisfied eating my chicken kabob combo plate.

Was not impressed when I went here for lunch. The gyro was really dry and they put some weird sauce on the falafel, it was sour. I thought it was just hummus at first, but I was sadly mistaken. Falafel was really greasy too and just seemed old, like it had been fried ages ago and just kept warm. Pita and hummus were ok, thank goodness, can't mess up on that, can you? I might try it again just incase I went on a bad day.

I looove Mediterranean food and I just can't bring myself to go back here. The food is overcooked and of poor quality. It's cheap, but for about the same price I can go to yummy Panera for half salad & sandwich or now get a huuuge burrito at chipotle!

Daphne's is a nice little stop for a quick lunch if you are in the area. This location is definitely the best I have been to for ambiance. Sounds strange talking about ambiance in a take out joint, but this Daphne's shares a covered courtyard eating area complete with a fountain, with a couple other higher quality fast food joints that makes it a real pleasure to sit and eat. On top of that there is always the Daphne's mock waiter service as well. The food is pretty decent for fast food Greek. You would never mistake it for home made but it does the trick. I usually get the Veggie Combo, but the gyros and chicken kebabs are pretty good too. The Dolmades (rice stuffed grape leaves) are nice and vinegary with a good texture, the hummus is blended just to the point where it still has some graininess too it, and the falafel if good from time to time. It was bad enough when they switched to the patty shape from the balls to advertise to everyone that it arrived frozen, but many times it is way overcooked to the point where it is completely unenjoyable. But if you get lucky, its not bad either. Check it out if you find yourself in the strip mall for lunch and you despise Pasta Bravo as much as I do!

My husband and I eat here at least once or twice a week when I do not feel like cooking. We love their spicy chicken salad. I am a big fan of their gyro meat (very juicy) and he loves their spanokapita. You can not go wrong with their feta fries (fries with their spicy hummus on top).

Our family loves Daphne's...sometimes you need a quick meal, but aren't craving a drippy greasy joint...Daphne's always rocks. My husband always wants to start with the spicy Fire Feta Zestas appetizer (a little deep-fried grease, but not too much) and we each order the basic gyros sandwiches. I usually get an a la carte order of the gyro meat to-go because we all eat it throughout the week by the slice or tossed in weekday salads at home. So good!!!

so my dear best friend texted me about his falafel cravings and suddenly i, too, was craving some delicious, mediterranean balls. he ended up giving a 5 star review after his lunch, and well... here's my generous 2 stars. i searched all around yelp to find something other than what i kept referring to as "nancy's" because i can never remember what this stupid place is called. but alas, daphne's was the closest place to my office. i got the hummus and falafel plate with extra hummus instead of rice (VEGANS: THEIR RICE HAS EGGS IN IT!). bad mistake. i don't remember their hummus sucking so much. it's very whitey friendly. in other words, tahini content is almost (or maybe even completely) nonexistant. it just tastes like chickpea paste! the falafel is alright but never tastes all that fresh. the salad is all lettuce with ONE skinny, little piece of cucumber, a slice of tamato, and a couple slivers of red onion. so today i spent $8 on what was essentially: too much shitty hummus, a few pieces of old falafel, some flat bread that barely holds anything, and some lettuce. maybe i've just been spoiled by my friend's lebanese mommy, but this place is the pits.
